under the dated concept of the ideal worker.
This model assumes
that workers have a stay-at-home partner who can take responsibility
for family demands.
With this supposition in mind, employers also
expect that workers can work undistracted and uninterrupted, and forever be on call.
However, this
ideal structure can result in several disadvantages when it comes to the

institutions continue to operate under the cultural assumption that employees are accessible and can abide by customary office expectations such as

have already faced significant disadvantages in the workforce. For instance, women
who have children
almost immediately after receiving their Ph.D. are much less likely to attain
tenure than men who have children
in their careers. This exemplifies the narrow
stereotypes in which a lot of
employers assume that mothers are more
devoted to their children
than their fathers. Though, this assumption remains
there due to the fact that most
organizations maintain a culture where men
do not feel at ease taking provided
leave. And women
feel expected to while also uncomfortable utilizing family leave
because of stigma. This present practice
perpetuated by most institutions maintains the ideal worker
framework and disadvantages potential talent maintenance,
which in effect holds back an
organization’s success.
