Human services professional

Introduction
Human services professional are driven by the need to help individuals and organizations perform at an optimal level. To achieve this, human services use an array of strategies, knowledge and a skill set. The application of any of the strategies requires knowledge of factors affecting human behavior. To employ the strategies to the case under study, it is important to familiarize with human development, how different factors impact behavior.
Strategies
The two strategies selected for this case are case management through counseling and coaching. As a human service professional, the situation demands specialized well-developed counseling abilities (Reid & Schram, 2012).  Additionally, it is necessary to be conversant with different theories of theories of counseling and how to connect them with different theories of personality.  Initiation of counseling is imperative as human service professional often acts as the start for the counseling relation. The participants should be encouraged to contribute in the discussion in order to obtain the good results.  The best opportunity to ask questions, to devote time for a chat should be secured in order to help in the diagnosis or treatment of conditions.  The other role that the situation may necessitate the human service professional to play involves collaborating with health care professionals and educators.
This strategy also requires the human service professional to have a solid working knowledge of primary diagnostic systems used in such cases. Being equipped with the knowledge can help determine needs of patients and members of a community who need services of a counselor. Counseling makes more sense as it allows patients to develop coping strategies understand the complexities of problems and devise solutions.  The professional should encourage the individuals to speak about their issues. If not, he or she may hold a brief conversation with them about their negative behavior. Individual sessions or small-group with all participants may be held depending on the goal of the counseling sessions.
On the other hand, coaching is a vital tool for human service professionals who recognize the importance of providing opportunities for individuals to change a particular behavior.  It is important to know that the largest part of coaching happens through engagement with the client (Lewis et al., 2001). Whether a person tries to develop individuals or themselves, it is important to know that one of the key ways to impact positively is through coaching. Human service professionals who coach effectively are capable of meeting their goals and improving results compared to those that do not carry out coaching.
While this strategy is effective, human service professionals may become overwhelmed.  However, with effective coaching, individuals should be able to discover how to tackle different challenges and work through problems individually.  Coaching sessions may focus on teaching social skills, empathy, and problem-solving skills. Counseling sessions may incorporate training on how to respond to different challenges. The classes may also focus on emotional matters that may be exacerbated by their experiences.   The professional should provide support to the individuals and validates their feelings. Such activities include helping them brainstorm diverse and sometimes less emotionally reactive ways to respond to the situations. The professional may also provide alternatives ways to approach or report the problems.
Overall, the Human services professional should be able to show competency in areas such as knowledge of the conditions necessary to the highest functioning in human systems, knowledge of human systems and organizations and the ability to identify what types of strategies to achieve the goals. Along with personal abilities in the form of planning skills and communication, the human services professional should be able to help the clients reach their goals.
